Abbey Farm is

  • a 600 hectare arable farm
  • Growing sugar beet, maize & combinable crops, rye & miscanthus.

12 hectares of grassland surround Kirkstead Abbey ruin and St Leonards’s Church and the remaining areas of recently planted woods, spinneys, hedges and grassland form part of our Natural England Higher Level Environmental scheme.

Crops grown by Abbey Farming are producing some of your electricity! Miscanthus, also known as elephant grass, is cut annually, baled and sent to Brigg power station to be burnt instead of fossil fuels. The poorer land is used for renewable energy crops so poor yielding land is put to best use. Solar power is also harnessed and used on the farm to help reduce our carbon footprint.
